The Committee
A committee is a group of people who individually can do nothing, but who, as a group, can meet and decide that nothing can be done (Fred Allen)
Carcroft Club is a social club, established in 1910, its original aim "to provide recreation and education for working class men and their families". Today, of course, it is a focal point of the local community for both men and women and supports many social and sporting activities. And it's still a non-profit organisation run by members through a committee.
Anyone who has been a member for at least 6 months can put themselves forward for election to the management committee. Elections are held twice a year after the general meetings, which usually take place in February and August. Each committee member serves for 12 months before they must submit themselves for re-election. The Club has a very experienced committee but we're always looking for new blood to take the club forward while preserving its character and the vital role it plays in our local community.
